Projects
Projects
A selection of our research projects, ongoing and completed.

CO2SeaStone – mineral carbon storage using seawater
Carbfix
Advancing the Carbfix CO₂ mineralisation method using seawater for injection, tackling the mineral-precipitation challenges posed by dissolved elements in seawater.
GEMGAS – geo-electrical monitoring of H₂S sequestration
Orka náttúrunnar
Testing and developing geophysical methods to monitor gas uptake in rock during H₂S injection at Nesjavellir.
Drone-based magnetometry
Jarðvísindastofnun HÍ
Equipment development combining a MagArrow magnetometer with a DJI Matrice 600 Pro drone to enhance geophysical surveying in Iceland.

DEEPEN – geothermal exploration in magmatic environments
Orkuveita Reykjavíkur
Applying Play Fairway Analysis to assess the likelihood of successful geothermal exploration in volcanic settings using resistivity and seismic-velocity models.

REFLECT – geothermal fluid properties at extreme conditions
GFZ Potsdam
Developing methods to sample and characterise geothermal fluids at 3–5 km depth, where temperatures and pressures far exceed what was previously manageable.
RESULT – enhancing reservoirs in urban areas
TNO
Demonstrating a 30–100% increase in geothermal heating capacity in northern cities; the Icelandic part examined the mature Elliðaárdalur system (in operation since 1968).
