ÍSOR has extensive experience of geoscientific measurements in the preparation and design of roads and tunnels. ÍSOR has taken part in the larger tunnelling projects in Iceland, such as the Hvalfjörður tunnel, including seismic surveys for sub-sea tunnelling.

ÍSOR has taken part in ground investigations in Grindavík in connection with the rifting and volcanic activity in the area. Ground-penetrating radar was used, among other methods, to detect cavities underground and so map hidden fissures within the town. Ground-penetrating radar can serve many purposes in engineering geology.
